Dick's Auto Salvage

Junkyards are hot modeling subjects, and no wonder why: they are loaded with details—even better, old, rusty details at that. I'm right in there with the rest of the fellows who love junkyards. Monroe Models' Jurgen's Junk Yard was a natural starting point. That it's built around a Quonset hut made it even more appealing, as these interesting structures often pop up in run-down industrial areas across the Northeast.

My version will be an auto salvage yard—only slightly different from a typical junkyard, as the focus is obviously on vehicles. The kit's fence unfortunately will be of no use, as the terrain is uneven where it's going. So, the fence will need to be scratch-built, board-by-board, after the scenery is complete.

As of 26 September 2008, this is where the project stands. More as it happens.

This Quonset hut is smaller and closer in size to the one in the kit.
