Jim's Trains/Don and Stan's Barber Shop |
|
This pair of shops, named for real people and places of my youth, will reside in a Shire Scenes kit. I didn't want to recycle a Miller Engineering kit that I'd already used, and I'd used just about all of them, so this building filled the bill nicely. Although Shire Scenes is a UK company that makes European-styled kits, this building is generic enough to fit into a North American town. Originally slated to occupy a Shire Scenes kit, the two shops got moved into the Pitman Deli kit, originally home to Emma's Cafe, and the Shire Scenes building was converted to a Pharmacy, which amounts to "generic storefront" status. The plan for the hobby shop is to include a smaller version of the Sceniced and Ridiculously Small layout I built for my White River and Northern. And the plan for the barber shop is to include a Z scale version of the N scale working barber pole, which is currently being engineered. Aside from these "special effects" features, the building itself would be somewhat unique in that it would not undergo any structural modifications, a circumstance that very few buildings in Naughtright enjoy. As of 9 October 2008, this is where the project stands. More as it happens. |
Here's the Pitman Deli as it appears in its original form.
Construction begins, per usual, by soldering the main walls together. |
